Hauling logs is hard work. Not only is it physically demanding, but you’re outdoors battling the elements, often far from civilization. Forestry is a critical economic force in Western Canada, and we want to provide you many equipment options to complete your job successfully and safely. As a forestry professional, you need reliable trucks and trailers that can handle whatever nature or your job throws at you.

Find a selection of logging trailers in Kamloops and Calgary or one of many other dealerships at RJames Western Star. Not sure what to get? Here is some additional information about common types of logging trailers, please contact us for additional details.

A fixed length log trailer is similar to a standard semi-trailer, except bunks are used in place of a box. These trailers don’t have a solid floor, but they do have beams to support the bunk. This type of trailer is suitable for carrying tree-length logs, but you must secure the load during highway travel to avoid logs from rolling off.

A pole log trailer is a good choice if you find yourself needing to turn tight corners. These trailers are typically made up of a tractor and a rotatable log bunk mounted over the fifth wheel. They also have a second bunk attached by a reach and pole, and the distance between the two can be modified thanks to an adjustable pole.

Lowboy or lowbed trailers allow you to carry a higher payload without going over height restrictions. These trailers feature a dip in deck height after the gooseneck and another dip just before the back set of wheels. There are many sub-types of lowbed trailers. Some models have hydraulically detachable goosenecks, or mechanical folding goosenecks. Removable goosenecks allow the front of the trailer to drop down and be used as a temporary ramp.

Find the Right Logging Trailer in Kamloops, Calgary & our other BC & AB Locations

We understand that buying a heavy truck or trailer is a significant investment, but this equipment can make the job a lot easier, more efficient, and as a result more profitable. Several questions to keep in mind include:

  • Will the trailer be for used on the road or in the woods?
  • What is the distance you’re travelling?
  • Are you hauling logs, short-wood, or tree-length material?

Many loggers want a durable trailer that can maximize their payload. Some would like to maximize fuel efficiency if they are travelling long distances. Others in the industry are more concerned with durability, especially if the area they work in boasts rugged terrain.

If you need help choosing a trailer, please ask us! Our team has over 150 years of combined experience, so you can depend on our expertise in helping you chose the right piece of equipment.
